The jump from Windows 3.11 to Windows 95 was a new learning experience for everyone and with each new OS came new ways of learning. If you are interested in learning again, have you ever thought of trying Linux?

If you have never heard of Linux, then think again as you are most likely using Linux everyday.

Android is the most popular operating system in the world today and being on almost every single mobile phone throughout the world, you are actually using Linux.

There are a lot of different varieties of Linux and for the laptop or desktop computer, names such as Mint, Suse, Ubuntu, Mageia and many more are all Linux.

Want to learn something new? Denlyn Computers can show you the rich environment of Linux.

Denlyn Computers has been around for a while now but as times go on, things simply slow down so anyone needing assistance can still phone us but it will have to wait until the weekend. The quality of service will always be there and with no weekend penalties, you don't get charged outrageous fees. If it isn't urgent and you have a bit of time on your hands, we can still help.

New Computers

(we also do computer repairs)

Computers don't last forever and sooner or later, that precious member of the family will need to be updated or upgraded.

You might be thinking that your 8 year old computer running XP is perfect and if there is nothing wrong with it, why replace it? That, in itself, is a very good question but sometimes software gets outdated and needs newer versions or your hardware requires a new program to run efficiently.

Security Vulnerabilities are everywhere if you have outdated software so to ensure your 8 year old PC is running in good condition, always update regularly. Unfortunately, Windows 10 won't run on old computers and no one is really sure how old the computer has to be. Some have said 5 years, others 3 years and this is one of the reasons why Windows 10 is unpopular. As time has moved on since the release of Windows 10, people are now upgrading their computers or purchasing new ones because of WIndows 10 becoming more mature.

END OF SUPPORT

With Windows XP long and gone, it is now time for Windows Vista to fade into history. APRIL 11, 2017 is the end of an era for Windows Vista and after this date, you will no longer get security updates from Microsoft

Windows 7 still has a few years left of support so if your not ready for Windows 10, you still have plenty of time to enjoy this wonderful OS. Below is a list of current operating systems showing when support will expire.

Operating systems Latest update/service pack End of mainstream support End of extended support
Windows XP Service Pack 3 April 14, 2009 April 8, 2014
Windows Vista Service Pack 2 April 10, 2012 April 11, 2017
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 January 13, 2015 January 14, 2020
Windows 8 Windows 8.1 January 9, 2018 January 10, 2023
Windows 10 Continuous October 13, 2020 October 14, 2025

End of support doesn't mean the end of the world as there are still people out there using Windows XP. The problem here is the architecture of the latest computer parts. You will not be able to install Windows XP on the latest CPU's such as the 7th Gen Intel. The reason for this is because XP hasn't been updated from Microsoft.

With Windows 10 becoming more mature by the day, there will come a time when everyone will be running Windows 10 and if you change over today, then you will have 8 years of support and updates. Buying Windows 10 is very easy and you can do it two ways. The first is you can actually download Windows 10 from Microsoft here and then select WIndows 10 in the drop down button. Becareful here as they will give you a few choices. Windows 10, Windows 10 N and Windows 10 Single Language. If you reside in Europe, then you can select Windows N. Being in Australia, just select "Windows 10" and on the next page you will be able to choose either 32 or 64 bit. Follow the prompts and the download will begin.

As this is an ISO file, you will need to burn it to a blank DVD disk. Once downloaded, you can the buy the installation key. Always keep this key in safe place as it will either be in an email or on a Microsoft card. If you lose this, then you will have to buy a new one unless you opt to have it recorded on the Microsoft website.

The second way is perhaps the easiest where you purchase the disk and key together at any computer shop or through us. It is always best to buy the full version and not the upgrade version as with the upgrade, you will need to have either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 installed prior to upgrading again. The other option is what version? Windows 10 come in many formats but the two most common is Home and Pro. If it's for home use, the Home version will be good enough for you. Through the Microsoft Store, your price will be $179.00 incl GST and through the likes of Harvey Norman, your price will be $178.00 incl GST. Through Denlyn Computers, the pricing will be similar as Microsoft has ensure there are no further pricing discrepancies on their products. Ou price will be $170.00 incl GST. Even though you have to burn the Microsoft ISO and Harvey Norman has Windows 10 on a USB stick, our version is on a DVD disk but in OEM form.
